It is used primarily in gas purification processes, where it absorbs carbon dioxide and water vapor from the air or gases passing through it. This makes it valuable in applications such as carbon dioxide scrubbing in rebreathers, as a desiccant in gas drying processes, and in medical devices to absorb exhaled carbon dioxide during anesthesia.
